It certainly but my 'problems' into perspective. (Lucie says I was particularly
grumpy yesterday!) ;O)
But as I continued to read, I noticed a very, very interesting
pattern...
Whether the story was of a baby who survived or not, they nearly ALL mentioned the exact same thing...
The love, care and support the families got from the NURSES.
Here are some of the most dedicated, hardworking and caring men and women on
the planet, literally working on the front line, saving children's lives every
day and yet what
do they get in return...?

And that's when I got a cRaZy idea...
I realised that despite putting on the most incredible NLP & Coaching
Business Conference last September and raising over £31,000 for the Tiny Babies, Big

Now I'd like to share a couple of stories from some of the other families who's lives have been touched by the nurses of the neo-natal unit... (you can read many more at http://www.uk-cherubs.org.uk/)
A Mother's Story
"It was a great shock to discover, at 32 weeks pregnant with my second child, that there was a problem. My GP had referred me for an extra ultrasound scan at 30 weeks because I was too big for my dates. Nothing seemed wrong except that my baby was big. I was asked to return in two weeks. At the next scan, I could tell from the sonographer's face that something was very wrong. Two consultants were called, and they told me they thought my baby may have a right-sided diaphragmatic hernia, something I had never heard of. I was also told that I had too much amniotic fluid, and in order to stop me from delivering early, I needed to have some of it drained out. I went into hospital the next day for the drainage and then the day after that to University College Hospital, London, for a second opinion on my baby's condition.
A right-sided CDH was re-confirmed, and I was booked in to have the baby at UCH instead of my local hospital at Milton Keynes. They decided to monitor me weekly until about 38 weeks and then consider induction. However, at 35 weeks my waters broke, and I was rushed by ambulance to London. Max Anthony Wyatt came into the world about 36 hours later on 12th November 1999. We had been warned that he would be silent and would be put straight on a ventilator and taken to intensive care. However, to our complete joy, he managed a little cry as he was born, and once he was 'wired up' I was able to hold him for a few minutes before he went to the ICU. It was a wonderful moment after those three terrible weeks of worry to hold my beautiful baby boy - who to our surprise had bright ginger hair. He weighed 5 pounds and 14 ounces - not bad for 5 weeks early!
Max held up very well from the start and was stable enough to be transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital (London) where he had his surgery at just 3 days old.
The worst moment of our lives was when he was wheeled down to theatre - not knowing if we would see him alive again. However, all went very well, and he was back in about two hours- he had survived. Max made a very good recovery and 8 days after surgery he was off all breathing aids and was transferred to special care. Only two days after that, he was well enough to be transferred to our local hospital, and then only four weeks after his birth, and still one week before he was due, he came home.
Our greatest wish for the Millennium New Year's Eve was to be at home with our two sons - and that wish came true. Max was 'signed off' from our local hospital at 21 months old, although he had another check-up the following July with his surgeon in London. He was the most wonderful, cheerful, charming toddler you could imagine, and apart from his scar, you would not have any clue that he had once been so poorly.
Max continued with yearly check-ups until he was almost 4 and was then signed off from the London hospital too. He is doing very well and keeps very healthy. He does have asthma which is mild and under control. Asthma runs in the family so it was not very surprising that he should have it. Max is about to start school (September 2004), oh, and he is a big brother to Alex who was born in April 2003."

A Grandma's Story
"On Wed 28th Shelley had phoned the hospital first thing in the morning to see how Lewis was & was told he was comfortable, it was her first day home. Just a couple of hours later she phoned me & asked if I was busy, I said "what's up"?. She said the Hospital had phoned & said Lewis had had a turn for the worse & could she get to the hospital. Jamie & John were already on their way there to visit Lewis. I just dropped everything. I probably broke the speed limit a few times but I just didn't care. Lewis's oxygen levels had dropped dramatically & his heart had stopped twice. The Doctor asked to speak to Jamie & Shelley alone, they came back crying. They had to give their permission to turn his life support off. We were all taken to a room. It was so unfair that Jamie & Shelley would now be holding their son for the first time, but that he would be dead.
Lewis was brought in...... unhindered by the tubes & wires that had kept him alive. For the first time we saw his beautiful face with nothing in the way.
The hospital staff were absolutely wonderful, they gave a camera & 2 rolls of film which they had developed. Jamie took Lewis's hand & footprints. We all got lockets with Lewis's downy blond hair in. Jamie & Shelley bathed & dressed Lewis and I got my chance to hold my gorgeous Grandson. Tracing my fingers over the contours of his exquisite little face, I savoured every little part of his features, I breathed in his lovely baby smell & kissed his tender little mouth & knew that I would treasure this moment for the rest of my life.
It was the most excruciatingly gut wrenching tender moment I have ever experienced.
We will never forget you, little Darling Lewis. Goodnight Sweetheart."

I'm sad to report that almost 1,000 babies are placed into the care of the nurses at the Birmingham Children's Hospital Intensive Care Unit each and every year.

Before this event i had questions buzzing around in my head about how to move forward on creating a membership group. As a result of attending I now have concrete plans with regard to what to include and how to move forward. Aside, a smaller question of mine has been answered which is how to sell my CD which helps people to fall asleep and fall back to sleep if they wake.
